Job summary

The City of Davis is seeking a professional to supervise the Water Utilities staff responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the water distribution system. You will oversee daily operations, ensure clean, sustainable drinking water, and respond to citizen inquiries.

You will lead safety training, manage budgets, review work orders, and coordinate with other divisions and agencies. Strong leadership and a background in water systems are essential.

Qualifications

• Five years of responsible maintenance, construction, and/or repair water distribution facilities, including two years as lead or supervisor.
• Valid Class A California Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.
• Grade D-3 Water Distribution Operator certificate or equivalent.
• American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED certifications.
• Ability to read blueprints, maps, and construction drawings.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, supervise, and review water system maintenance and repair work.
• Develop and monitor budgets; prepare cost estimates and requisitions.
• Lead safety training programs and ensure compliance with safety rules and procedures.
• Coordinate with City departments and outside agencies; act as liaison with public and contractors.
• Respond to citizen complaints and inquiries; communicate effectively with staff and public.
• Inspect work in progress and upon completion; maintain records and reports.
