Job summary

The City of Houston Public Works department seeks a skilled laborer for the Houston Water/Repairs & Restoration sections. You will perform repairs, maintenance, and restoration tasks across various locations in Houston, operating heavy equipment and power tools.

Requires a high school diploma or GED, with six months of manual/field experience. A valid Texas driver’s license is required, with CDL preferred depending on equipment. Eligible veterans receive preference.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent with basic math skills.
• Ability to read, write, follow oral and/or basic written instructions.
• Six months of manual and field work experience with power tools or equipment are required.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintenance of water distribution lines, meters, valves, and hydrants.
• Perform restoration activities such as paving, fences, and landscaping within City rights of way.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment and power tools; ensure safety daily.
• Lead team members, inspect sites, and assist training of new personnel.
