Job summary

City of Houston is seeking a Maintenance Worker for the Houston Water/Wastewater Operations Maintenance team. The role supports effective maintenance and operation of utilities across various locations, performing field sampling, reports, and valve work.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and at least six months of general maintenance experience. Physical exertion and drug testing are part of the job, with benefits including health coverage and pension plans.

Qualifications

• Six months of general maintenance/work experience are required.
• Requires ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training.
• Preference will be given to applicants with plant and/or lift station maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and operates the water/wastewater facilities at multiple locations.
• Operates sampling instruments and analyzes water samples.
• Prepares reports and records of operations, service calls, maintenance and repairs using a data tracking system.
• Operates valves and flushes hydrants to address water quality issues and reviews GIS to determine valve locations.
• May renew utility services to designated areas and perform other duties as assigned.
