Job summary

The City of Rocky Mount is seeking a supervisor for the water and sewer maintenance crew. You will oversee daily operations, ensure equipment readiness, and coordinate repairs and services for water and sewer utilities.

The role requires substantial experience with heavy equipment, strong supervisory and communication skills, and a valid NC CDL with potential to upgrade to Class A within six months. You will participate in after-hours responses and safety trainings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years in water/sewer utilities construction and repair with heavy equipment operation.
• Experience to understand subordinate work (3–5 years).
• Valid NC Class B CDL with ability to obtain Class A within six months; active 3-year driving history.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment: back-hoe, tracked excavators, wheeled loader, dozer.
• Supervise assigned crew.
• Install and maintain water and sewer services.
• Install and repair fire hydrants.
• Ensure equipment and materials are available.
• Train, supervise, evaluate and handle disciplinary actions of personnel.
• Respond to after-hours emergency situations.
• Assist in smoke-testing sewer lines.
• Maintain vehicles, tools and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
