Job summary

City of Lacey seeks a Water Resources Specialist to manage public information and outreach for water quality programs. You will handle project management, respond to inquiries, and coordinate with jurisdictions on conservation, watershed, and drinking water issues.

The role involves developing education materials, leading workshops, preparing reports, and coordinating with volunteers and AmeriCorps placements. A degree in a related field and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, communications, public relations, planning, or closely related field AND one (1) year of experience related to water resources or education/outreach.
• An Associate’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, communications, public relations, planning, or closely related field AND three (3) years of experience related to water resources or education/outreach.
• May substitute experience, education, and training for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements and delivers education and public outreach to assist citizens and local businesses in understanding the City’s drinking water quality and storm/surface water quality programs.
• Performs program education through workshops, presentations, articles, site visits, and other materials; coordinates with surrounding jurisdictions; notifies the public on health issues via press releases and media interviews.
• Analyzes issues, reviews data, and proposes solutions for water quality or environmental problems; negotiates with jurisdictions to develop work plans for regional programs.
• Assists with water quality monitoring functions such as collection of water and soil samples and compiling statistics.
• Leads assigned water resource projects related to conservation, notices, reports; prepares scopes of work and manages consultant processes; prepares reports.
• Prepares grant applications for federal, state, and local programs related to water resources.
• Develops databases, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing documents.
