Job summary

The Washington State Department of Ecology is seeking a Central Region Community Outreach and Environmental Education Specialist 3 within the Water Quality Program. The role focuses on leading hands-on learning experiences and partnerships to empower residents in the Lower Yakima Valley to become stewards of their environment.

Responsibilities include designing multilingual outreach, coordinating with schools and communities, and translating materials to Spanish.

• Ability to plan and carry out engagement activities.
• Ability to work with diverse cultures to build trust and improve access to services.
• Develop and deliver accessible outreach materials and learning opportunities.
• Translate and interpret information to ensure Spanish-speaking communities participate.
• Understand environmental issues, programs, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Partner with technical experts to craft community-centered engagement strategies.
• Provide Spanish interpretation during workshops and meetings.
• Share information via presentations, email, web content, and educational materials.
• Translate key outreach materials into Spanish for inclusive communication.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate community outreach while elevating community insights.
• Identify gaps in access and tailor outreach tools for underserved communities.
