Job description

We are looking for an experienced Water Resources Engineer to lead our team in Northern Indiana. This position could be based in any of our Northern Indiana locations (South Bend, Mishawaka, Fort Wayne, and soon Merrillville, IN).

The ideal candidate will be a Professional Engineer with substantial experience managing wastewater, drinking water, and/or stormwater projects. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills to advance into a department manager position or for a seasoned project manager and team leader to further their career.

Lochmueller Group is a regional engineering consulting firm focused on infrastructure. We provide multidisciplinary services for public agencies and private entities, including transportation design; water resources design; environmental analysis & permitting; construction engineering & inspection; traffic engineering & transportation planning; surveying; and land acquisition & appraisal. Our transportation design work primarily involves roadway and bridge projects for local public agencies and state DOTs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Department Leadership: Leads and manages teams of engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and fostering a positive workplace culture. Ensures professional growth, conducts performance appraisals, participates in recruiting and hiring, and manages resource allocation.
  2. Project Management: Ensures project deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Plans, organizes, and directs activities related to project management, design, and construction oversight. Serves as project manager on various projects and performs QC/QA as needed.
  3. Client and Stakeholder Relations: Develops new client relationships, maintains existing ones, and coordinates with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
  4. Fiscal/Budgetary Performance: Works to improve productivity and efficiency, addresses project variances, collaborates on budget development, implements cost controls, and ensures accurate financial reporting.
Mandatory Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Proven success in managing large or complex water resources projects
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering software and analysis tools
  • Leadership experience guiding teams to high-quality results
  • Strong client management skills and ability to develop new relationships
  • Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong communication skills
  • 15+ years of water resources engineering experience (consideration given to candidates with fewer years if they possess the right skills and experience)
