Job summary

The Town of Holly Springs is seeking a Lab Analyst in the Utilities & Infrastructure department to sample and analyze wastewater and drinking water according to 40 CFR Part 136 to ensure public safety from harmful bacteria and chemicals. This role will oversee sample collection, perform analyses, prepare reagents, and maintain records for compliance with regulations.

The position requires coordination with plant personnel, communication of results, and participation in quality control and safety

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent with 5 years wastewater lab experience.
• Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Class 1 certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Wastewater Operator Grade 1 certification or ability to obtain within one year.

Responsibilities

• Analyze wastewater and drinking water per 40 CFR Part 136.
• Sample pump stations and systems per permit schedule.
• Perform analyses of chemical and bacteriological media.
• Prepare reagents and materials for analysis.
• Maintain accurate records for regulatory compliance.
• Inform plant personnel of results to adjust processes.
• Confer with staff on findings affecting compliance.
• Conduct microscopic examinations of activated sludge.
• Perform quality control analyses to ensure standards.
• Provide technical information and respond to complaints about treatment procedures.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Ensure health and safety practices in the lab.
• Enter data into management system and verify against SOPs.
• Write or update SOPs and QA manuals.
