Job summary

The Town of Holly Springs is seeking a Lab Analyst in the Utilities & Infrastructure department to sample and analyze wastewater and drinking water in accordance with 40 CFR Part 136, ensuring public safety from harmful bacteria and chemicals. The starting salary is $59,289.31 (Grade H) and the position reports to the Utilities Manager-Environmental Compliance.

Work hours are business hours with occasional evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree plus 5 years of wastewater lab experience.
• Wastewater Lab Analyst Class 1 certification (or ability to obtain within 1 year).
• Wastewater Operator Grade 1 certification (or ability to obtain within 1 year).
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze wastewater and drinking water samples per 40 CFR Part 136.
• Sample pump stations, industries and collection systems per permit.
• Perform analysis of tests to determine constituents.
• Mix reagents and prepare materials for analysis.
• Maintain reports and records for compliance.
• Inform plant personnel of test results for process adjustments.
• Consult staff on findings affecting regulations.
• Perform microscopic examinations of activated sludge.
• Conduct quality control analyses to meet federal standards.
• Provide technical information and respond to complaints.
• Clean and maintain lab equipment; order supplies.
• Ensure health and safety practices in lab.
• Enter data into Wastewater Information Management System.
• Write/update SOPs and QA Manual per changes.
• Other duties as assigned.
