Job summary

The City of Houston's Houston Water/Drinking Water Operations is seeking a skilled technician to design, install, operate, and repair data communications equipment and industrial control systems across multiple water treatment facilities.

Ideal candidates have an associate degree or equivalent, plus two years of experience with control instrumentation; a valid Texas driver's license may be required. Work is Monday–Friday with location at various sites and some physical effort.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree (2-year program) in computer science, instrumentation or electronics or equivalent certification
• Two years of experience in design, installation, operation, and/or maintenance of a computerized data communications network or industrial control system
• Substitution: relevant experience may replace education on a year-for-year basis

Responsibilities

• Design, install, operate, maintain and repair data communications equipment and instrumentation
• Design, evaluate and implement microprocessor-based control equipment
• Install and maintain instrumentation and control appurtenances at water treatment facilities
• Diagnose data communication system failures and coordinate with vendors
• Evaluate process control equipment and train personnel
• Operate test equipment to diagnose software/hardware issues
• Repair and calibrate components of process control and analytical systems
