Job summary

The City of Houston's Public Works department is seeking an experienced technician for the Houston Water/Drinking Water Operations team. The role involves designing, installing, operating, maintaining and repairing data communications equipment and instrumentation across water treatment facilities, with on-site responsibilities at multiple locations.

Candidates should have an associate degree in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience; preference for those with knowledge of

Qualifications

• Requires two years of experience in design, installation, operation, and/or maintenance of a computerized data communications network or industrial control system.
• Ability to diagnose data communications failures and interface with vendors to resolve problems.
• Substitution of relevant experience for education is allowed year-for-year.

Responsibilities

• Perform design, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of data communications equipment and industrial control systems and instrumentation.
• Design, evaluate and implement microprocessor-based control equipment.
• Perform installation and maintenance of instrumentation and control appurtenances at water treatment facilities.
• Diagnose data communication system failures and coordinate with vendors to resolve problems.
• Evaluate process control equipment and train on installation and operation.
• Operate test equipment to isolate software/hardware issues.
• Repair and calibrate all components of process control and analytical systems.
