The City of Houston's Houston Water/Drinking Water Operations is seeking a skilled technician to design, install, operate, and repair data communications equipment and industrial control systems across multiple water treatment facilities.
Ideal candidates have an associate degree or equivalent, plus two years of experience with control instrumentation; a valid Texas driver's license may be required. Work is Monday–Friday with location at various sites and some physical effort.

This position may involve considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on an occasional basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.
Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Requires an Associate’s degree (two-year program) in a computer science, instrumentation or electronics discipline or the equivalent, such as certification in a technical/specialty program of up to three years in duration
Two (2) years of experience in the design, installation, operation, and/or maintenance of a computerized data communications network or industrial control system are required.
Relevant experience (as described above) may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Depending upon area of specialty -- may require a valid class "C" Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. In the Public Works and Engineering Department, may require a valid class "C" or higher Texas Water or Wastewater Plant Operator's license.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in maintaining medium/low voltage systems, knowledge of electrical controls, or that hold an active Texas Electrical Journeyman License.
