Job summary

City of Austin seeks a senior operations professional to organize and manage the operations and maintenance of water and/or wastewater facilities and distribution systems. You will interpret compliance, monitor expenditures, and coordinate activities with engineers, regulators, and the community.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, multi-zone water distribution systems, or wastewater collection systems.
• Knowledge of EPA and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws.
• Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
• Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
• Knowledge of supervisory/managerial techniques and principles.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
• Skill in using computers and related software.
• Skill in data analysis and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and review compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Monitor operational/mechanical expenditures. Evaluate bid proposals and recommends selection.
• Coordinate facility activities with system requirements.
• Coordinate operation/maintenance of treatment facilities, water distribution system, or wastewater collection system with engineers, other departments, contractors, State/Federal regulatory agencies, neighborhood associations, and citizens.
• Manage site requirements (noise, environment, security). Manage safety programs, including inspections/reporting.
• Manage regulatory requirements: EPA, TCEQ, Watershed Protection, and AFD.
• Develops and recommends changes to operating procedures.
• Analyzes and interprets data and prepares reports, including performance measures.
• Prepares budget for facility.
• Provides technical advice to internal and external customers. Researches and responds to management and citizen questions.
• Oversee recruitment, training, evaluation, and dismissal decisions.
