Job summary

City of Austin seeks an Operations Manager for Austin Water to lead the oversight of the water treatment and distribution divisions, including budgeting, regulatory compliance, and cross-department collaboration. This role emphasizes strategic planning and safety programs across multiple facilities.

Responsibilities include coordinating with engineers and external partners, ensuring performance standards, and guiding a team through complex projects while maintaining public health and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with seven years of progressively responsible experience in related activities, including three years in supervisory/management capacity.
• Master’s degree may substitute for two years of non-supervisory/management experience.
• Experience may substitute for education up to four years.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and administer multiple divisions in water, wastewater, and reclaimed programs.
• Develop and monitor division budgets and long-range plans (3–5 years).
• Coordinate with City departments, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and safety programs.
• Provide technical advice and assistance to internal and external customers.
• Lead project timelines, delegating tasks and evaluating progress from start to finish.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and manage program performance.
