The City of Houston is seeking a Water Service Technician I to read and test water meters in the field, ensuring accurate consumption data for timely billing. The role involves on-site fieldwork, asset checks, and using mobile apps to report readings.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and at least six months of maintenance experience, plus a valid Texas driver license. Work hours follow a Monday–Friday schedule, with occasional shifts or changes as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of general maintenance/work experience required.
• Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with City of Houston driving policy.

Responsibilities

• Read water meters and report consumption accurately.
• Perform on/off tests on 5/8-inch to 2-inch meters.
• Identify and report asset status (damaged/missing meter boxes).
• Manually read water meters.
• Report leak indicators during readings.
• Learn to use Key-Map book in the absence of GPS.
• Report meter information using the field mobile app.
• Remove dirt from meter boxes to keep access.
• May perform other departmental duties as assigned.
