Job summary

City of Weslaco is seeking a Water Meter Technician to ensure accurate operation of meter systems in the field. duties include installation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and data entry into meter software. The role supports billing accuracy and customer service in outdoor environments.

Requires HS diploma, 1–3 years relevant experience, and ability to pass background checks. Must have TX Driver's License and willingness to work nights or weekends when needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of water meter systems.
• Basic plumbing and electrical principles.
• Knowledge of Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Automatic Meter Reading technology.

Responsibilities

• Maintain regular and prompt attendance; be physically present to work.
• Install, program, test, maintain, and repair water meters, including AMI/AMR devices.
• Diagnose and resolve meter malfunctions, communication errors, or inaccurate readings.
• Perform field investigations of high/low consumption complaints, leaks, and service irregularities.
• Collect, verify, and input meter readings into meter reading systems and billing software.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, service orders, and meter replacements.
• Respond to customer service requests in the field (turn-ons, shut offs, inspections).
