Job summary

The City of Savannah is seeking a Meter Shop Assistant to support daily operations of the meter shop, including inventory, distribution, and repair of water meters and components.

You will distribute meters, prepare and test meters, enter results into software, and help maintain accurate stock levels while providing reliable service to city crews and the public. Valid driver's license required and background checks apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1 year of mechanical repair or water distribution hardware installation.
• Equivalent education and experience may be accepted.

Responsibilities

• Distributes water meters to mechanics, work crews, and plumbers; maintains records of distributed meters.
• Prepares meters; tests meters; inputs test results into software and sends reports; conducts and maintains meter shop inventory.
• Receives and distributes fire hydrant meters; prepares meters, fittings, backflow valves, and hoses.
• Installs, repairs, and disconnects water meters.
• Repairs or replaces water shut-off valves.
• Investigates water meter leaks.
• Checks water pressure.
• Maintains parts and supply inventory.
• Processes inventory orders to be submitted.
• Assists work crews in repair and maintenance duties as needed.
• Responds to after-hours emergencies.
