Job summary

City of Galveston is seeking a Meter Service Technician to perform meter reading, installation, repair, and testing of water meters across residential and commercial sites.

The role requires handling customer service tasks, maintaining accurate records, and supporting emergency and routine system repairs. Candidates should have a high school diploma and a valid Texas driver’s license, with state certification within two years.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience in water meter operations.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License is required.
• Must obtain TCEQ C Distribution or C Ground Water within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Reads and records meter consumption with mobile/hand-held devices and manual reads.
• Installs, repairs and inspects water meters and related equipment.
• Responds to customer service requests including connections and leaks.
• Posts billing notices and maintains meter-related information.
• Maintains inventory and orders supplies as needed.
• May assist other divisions or respond to emergencies as a first responder.
