Job summary

City of Mesquite is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform a wide range of maintenance tasks, including installing, maintaining, and repairing concrete, asphalt, drainage, and water/sewer pipes. You will support City departments and the public, operating a variety of equipment in different weather conditions.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least six months of general labor experience with motorized equipment or hand tools used in utilities work.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma/GED.
• Requires six (6) months experience in general labor operating motorized equipment or hand tools similar to that used in water distribution and/or wastewater collection.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior as outlined in city policies.
• Operates equipment including trucks, air compressors, rollers, mud-jack, tar pots, concrete mixers, saws, jackhammers, drills and water pumps to repair/install concrete, asphalt and drainage structures.
• Maintains and repairs water and sewer pipes and appurtenances under various weather conditions.
• Provides support to division staff to complete duties and responsibilities.
• Inspects and maintains fluid levels and lubricates equipment; reports needed repairs.
• Assists with excavation projects using manual labor and probing for leaks.
• Completes daily logs and work orders as required.
• Follows safety regulations and uses barricades and signage.
• Installs/repairs water distribution piping and firefighting hydrants; repairs waterline breaks.
• Inspects sewer system, performs preventative maintenance and repairs manholes as needed.
• Sets up traffic safety zones and assists with streetlight-related duties.
