Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an experienced Administrative Engineer (10015) to oversee operations at one or more wastewater facilities, directing staff and ensuring regulatory compliance across a major NYC system.

The role emphasizes budgeting, technical guidance on process operations, CMMS utilization, and hiring/promotion decisions, with travel between plants as required.

Qualifications

• A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.
• Six (6) years of full-time experience in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, with at least two years in executive/administrative capacity.

Responsibilities

• Supervise civil service staff to ensure compliance with regulations and safety.
• Administer plant expenses, including energy, chemicals, overtime, inventory and contracts.
• Set staff productivity expectations aligned with rules and contracts.
• Provide technical guidance on process operations and CMMS use.
• Attend meetings with regulators, officials, labor, community and environmental groups.
• Plan daily work activities and oversee hiring, promotion and discipline.
• Be on 24-hour call and travel between plants as needed.
