Job summary

NYC Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Administrative Engineer to oversee operations at one or more wastewater treatment plants. The role includes supervising staff, budget control, and providing technical guidance in a 24/7 operation.

Candidates must hold a New York State Professional Engineer license with six years of engineering experience, including two in management. The position participates in the 55-a Program and may involve travel between plants.

Qualifications

• A valid New York State Professional Engineer license is required.
• Six or more years of full-time engineering experience in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work.
• At least two years in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.

Responsibilities

• Supervise civil service staff to ensure safe, compliant, efficient plant operations.
• Administer each plant's expense budget including energy, chemicals, overtime and contracts.
• Provide technical guidance on process operations and regulatory matters.
• Attend meetings with regulators, elected officials, labor reps, community and environmental groups.
• Plan daily work activities using CMMS and manage hiring, promotion, and discipline; be on 24-hour call and travel between plants.
