Job summary

The City of Buchanan is seeking a Water Resources Superintendent to oversee wastewater treatment operations and guide future utility planning. This role leads daily plant activities, ensures regulatory compliance, staff development, and long-term capital planning in a growing Michigan community.

The successful candidate will supervise operators and lab staff, coordinate with the City Manager and engineers, and drive safety and reliability across water and wastewater systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum education including high school diploma with wastewater training.
• Experience supervising operations and staff is preferred.
• Knowledge of budgeting, reporting, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Direct and participate in wastewater treatment plant operations and related facilities.
• Supervise operators and laboratory staff; schedule, train, and evaluate performance.
• Monitor performance, interpret data, and adjust processes.
• Ensure compliance with NPDES and EGLE/EPA requirements; prepare reports.
• Oversee pretreatment program, sludge and biosolids management.
• Plan preventive maintenance; manage budgets and asset records.
• Communicate issues to City Manager, regulators, and public.
