Job summary

City of St. Joseph, MO, seeks a Superintendent of Water Protection to lead wastewater treatment plant operations and regulatory compliance.

You will supervise staff, manage the division’s budget, and coordinate with regulators, consultants and contractors to ensure 24/7/365 plant performance.

A Missouri Class A wastewater certification and ten years of BN removal plant management are required.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of wastewater treatment process.
• Missouri Class A wastewater certification required.
• Ability to interpret and abide by federal, state and local laws.
• Ability to supervise and manage employees and efficiently run a high‑volume plant.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Public relations abilities.
• Knowledge of budget processes and procurement.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, electricity, mechanical and engineering principles.
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.
• Ten years of formal experience managing a 10 MGD BN removal plant.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and report information required by permits and regulations.
• Oversee department purchasing; manage annual budget and expenditures.
• Operate the biological nutrient removal plant and related processes.
• Plan future operation and maintenance projects for Water Protection.
• supervise staff and handle personnel matters.
• Serve as liaison with regulators, consultants and contractors.
• Oversee pretreatment and storm sewer programs and oversight.
• Oversee laboratory analytics and plant parameters monitoring.
• Develop staff growth and development programs.
