Job summary

NCSL International in Michigan is seeking a wastewater treatment plant supervisor to direct operations, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with state and federal permits. You will oversee laboratory work, data interpretation, and process optimization, while coordinating budgets and maintenance plans.

You will promote safety, coordinate emergency response, and report to city staff and regulators. A Class B certification or progress toward it is preferred, with further development supported.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or degree in water resources, environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related field preferred.
• Progressively responsible wastewater operations experience; supervisory or lead operator experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct and participate in operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and related facilities.
• Supervise operators and laboratory staff; schedule work, establish expectations, evaluate performance, and support training and certification advancement.
• Monitor treatment performance; interpret lab results and operating data; direct process adjustments.
• Oversee sampling, lab quality control, equipment calibration, and accurate records.
• Manage compliance with NPDES permit and EGLE/US EPA requirements; prepare reports and coordinate inspections.
• Administer the industrial pretreatment program; coordinate sludge and biosolids management; address discharges affecting performance or permit compliance.
• Plan preventive maintenance; manage budgets; coordinate contractors, supplies, and equipment purchases.
• Promote safe work practices; coordinate emergency response; communicate issues and recommendations to City Manager, staff, regulators, and the public.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
