Job summary

Gig Harbor is seeking a Wastewater Collection System Technician II to maintain the city’s wastewater treatment plant and collection network. The role combines skilled mechanical work with field inspections and troubleshooting to ensure pumps, valves, and telemetry operate reliably.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, 2 years in industrial mechanics or related tasks, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Two years of work experience including industrial mechanics, small crane operation, backhoe/excavator operation, forklift operation, and/or pump repair.
Experience with vactor truck operation preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

Performs routine operation and maintenance inspections of the collection system.
Monitors lift station operations, logs runtimes and maintenance.
Leads and assists coworkers in safe operation and maintenance.
Operates and maintains sewer line video inspection equipment.
Uses asset management program to schedule tasks and repairs.
Performs basic electrical troubleshooting on WWTP equipment.
Repairs or rebuilds pumps, grinders, and related equipment.
Maintains backup generators and pumping systems.
Locates parts and orders replacements.
Operates various tools and vehicles.
Installs new equipment.
Responds to public complaints about wastewater issues.
