Job summary

The City of San Luis Obispo seeks a Wastewater Collection System Operator to maintain and operate the 2C wastewater system (133 miles of sewer, 10 pump stations) and the city’s 50 miles of storm drains. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, reliable field performance, and the ability to work independently or with a team.

Responsibilities include maintenance, emergency repairs, data entry, and coordination with inspectors and engineers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and mechanical aptitude; willingness to advance in CWEA.
• Experience with wastewater or stormwater systems and basic electrical/hydraulic knowledge.
• Proficiency in Word, Outlook and Excel; able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate the 2C Wastewater Collection System and city storm drain system.
• Respond to overflows, blockages, and lift station failures; perform repairs as needed.
• Operate and maintain diverse equipment including backhoes, CCTV units, and pumps.
• Review engineering plans, maintain records, and prepare reports for compliance.
