Job summary

The City of High Point seeks a capable supervisor to lead recycling programs, oversee waste reduction initiatives, and enforce related codes under Environmental Services. This role focuses on coordinating staff, guiding projects, and aligning with city goals to protect the environment and public health.

You will manage training, grants, community outreach, and partnerships, organize litter cleanups, and report progress to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Must have valid driver’s license issued by the state.
• Combination of education and/or 5 years of experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in environmental health or related field.
• Must have knowledge of solid waste management and waste reduction methods and obtain SWANA certification within a year.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, City officials and other employees.
• High level of interpersonal skills; ability to supervise others and aid in program development.
• Experience serving on or leading a nonprofit board is preferred.
• Must communicate effectively in writing and speaking; good public relations skills.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills; ability to prepare and deliver public speeches.
• Proficiency with office machines and computers; ability to prepare and maintain reports and records.
• Strong computer background and knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee recycling programs, waste reduction and sustainability initiatives.
• Coordinate and monitor staff training and assigned projects.
• Oversee Keep High Point Beautiful, Bee City and Adopt-A-Street programs.
• Coordinate with Local Code Enforcement to ensure ordinance compliance.
• Manage grant applications and identify funding opportunities.
• Organize litter cleanup efforts and expand volunteer engagement.
• Manage social media and website content for waste reduction programs.
• Ensure programs comply with OSHA standards and city safety policies.
