Job summary

The City of High Point is seeking an Environmental Services Supervisor to oversee recycling programs, waste reduction, and illegal dumping enforcement. You will coordinate activities, supervise staff, and partner with city departments to execute plans that benefit the community.

Qualifications

• Combination of education and/or 5 years of experience in environmental health or related field.
• Must obtain SWANA certification within one year from hire date.
• Ability to supervise others and aid in program development; strong public relations and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee programs like Keep High Point Beautiful, Bee City and Adopt-A-Street that promote positive environmental behaviors.
• Supervise Environmental Services Code Enforcement Officer and Recycling Programs Coordinator; monitor training and objectives.
• Coordinate with Local Code Enforcement to ensure ordinance compliance on illegal dumping.
• Attend professional group meetings; stay updated on solid waste trends and innovations.
• Conduct cost analyses and feasibility studies for waste diversion and program designs.
• Manage grant applications and administration; identify funding opportunities for waste reduction.
• Prepare records on waste reduction programs and report findings to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with staff to market information and enforce dumping code violations.
• Coordinate programs with outside agencies focusing on waste reduction.
• Organize litter cleanup efforts city-wide and grow volunteer engagement.
• Oversee social media and website content for waste reduction programs in coordination with the PIO department.
• Ensure programs comply with OSHA and city safety standards; pursue ongoing professional development.
• Approve leave time and conduct performance evaluations.
