GFL - Sewer Technologies Division in Phenix City, AL is seeking a reliable Helper to join our waste collection team. You will collect solid waste, load it into our trucks, sort recyclables, and assist drivers on route, with safety as a priority.

The role emphasizes ability to read and follow instructions, basic math, and physical stamina to stand, lift, and operate in outdoor conditions. Training provided; valid driver's license preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED desired, but not required.
• 1–3 months related experience and/or training desired, but not required.
• Valid driver’s license preferred, but not required.
• Must meet safety-sensitive criteria according to Company standards.

Responsibilities

• Collect waste from customer premises or curbside.
• Load waste into truck.
• Sort recyclables and deposit in truck compartments.
• Assist driver with safe vehicle operation and backing.
• Operate truck compactor and controls as needed.
• Audit truck equipment before leaving branch (e.g., broom, shovel).
• Report customer problems to driver immediately.
• Identify prohibited waste items and remove them from the cart or can.
• Follow safety checks and company rules on safety and operation.
• Support routing efficiency and maintain route quality.
