Job summary

The City of West St. Paul is hiring Warming House Attendants for the 2026-2027 outdoor ice rink season. Staff will oversee Harmon Park Warming House and the surrounding rink during hours of operation, ensuring a safe, clean environment for patrons.

Positions are seasonal; typical season runs December 12 – February 21 with full-season availability encouraged. Harmon Park Warming House at 180 Bernard St W is staffed Mon-Fri 4-9pm, Sat 12-9pm, Sun 12-8pm; hours may change on school days or holidays.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions according to procedures.
• Pleasant, energetic, self-motivated and action-oriented in maintaining a safe, clean warming house.
• Provide fun, friendly customer relations and promote the City of West St. Paul and our Park System.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Open and close warming house building and surrounding ice rink.
• Track and prepare daily attendance and weather/ice condition reports.
• Maintain rink and grounds cleanliness including mopping, sweeping, trash/recycling removal; sanitation.
• Provide excellent customer service; enforce facility rules and regulations.
• Share information about and promote Parks and Recreation resources and programs.
• Use basic first aid to assist injured users; contact EMS as needed.
• Maintain documentation for accidents and incidents.
• Create a positive and fun recreation atmosphere in the park.
• Respond to issues quickly and safely; notify supervisors in emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The West St. Paul Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Warming House Attendants for the 2026-2027 outdoor ice rink season. Candidates hired for this position will represent the City of West St. Paul and will be responsible for the oversight of the Harmon Park Warming House and its surrounding ice rink during hours of operation. Warming House Attendants will maintain a safe and clean environment during each shift. Please note this does not include ice rink maintenance or upkeep.

This is a seasonal position; dates and hours of employment are subject to seasonal warming house / rink operation. The typical season runs approximately December 12 - February 21. Full-season availability is encouraged but not required.

The warming house located at Harmon Park (180 Bernard St W.) is generally staffed Monday - Friday 4-9pm, Saturday 12-9pm, and Sunday 12-8pm. Hours of operation are subject to change on non-school days, holidays, and days with inclement weather.

1. Opens and closes warming house building and surrounding ice rink.
2. Tracks and prepares daily attendance and weather/ice condition reports.
3. Maintains rink and grounds cleanliness including mopping, sweeping, trash and recycling removal, warming house and bathroom sanitation; performs snow and ice removal of public walks and driveways.
4. Provides excellent customer service to rink patrons; enforces facility rules and regulations.
5. Shares information about and promotes Parks and Recreation resources and programs.
6. Uses basic first aid procedures to assist injured facility users. Contacts EMS as needed.
7. Maintains proper documentation for all accidents and incidents.
8. Creates a positive and fun recreation atmosphere in the park.
9. Works to solve problems and respond to issues quickly and safely; contacts emergency personnel and supervisors with emergencies.
10. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must be 16 years of age or older.
2. Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions according to established procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in leadership or customer service.
2. Working knowledge of park and recreation resources and programs.
3. Ability to sit, stand and walk. Handles or operates objects, tools, or equipment. Reaches with hands or arms. Performs light to moderately heavy physical labor including climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and shoveling moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
4. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors and be exposed to weather extremes such as wind, sun, cold, and ice.
5. Ability to navigate uneven, slippery and snow/ice packed terrain.
6. Ability to write legibly and prepare reports.
