Job summary

City of Oakdale (MN) is seeking seasonal staff to help manage outdoor winter rinks and warming houses. This short season is weather dependent, with shifts in the evenings and weekends from late December through February.

Your duties include explaining rules, ensuring a fun and safe skating environment, assisting skaters, preparing attendance reports, and keeping ice surfaces and warming house clean and orderly. You may be asked to open/close facilities on schedule.

Qualifications

• At least 16 years old.
• Light to medium snow shoveling ability.
• Effective communication skills.
• Responsible and reliable.
• The ability to skate is not necessary.
• Basic first aid and CPR certificates desirable.

Responsibilities

• Explain rules and ensure a good, safe experience for all users.
• Prepare attendance reports.
• Maintain ice surfaces by scraping and removing snow.
• Keep warming house clean (sweep, trash).
• Open, close, and secure the warming house per schedule.
• Communicate respectfully with staff, visitors, and partners.
• Assist skaters as needed.

Looking for a winter job with the chance to be outside, get some exercise, and help provide a fun winter activity? Then our outdoor rinks and warming houses may be perfect for you! This is a short season that is weather dependent and we are looking for staff who can help make our rinks a great place to hang out and skate this winter.

Timeframe

Late December through February - depending on Mother Nature! Weekdays: 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Saturdays: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sundays: 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. Some weekdays during non-school days: 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Locations: Walton (pleasure rink and hockey - 1584 Hadley Avenue North), Eastside (hockey rink - 1744 Helmo Avenue N.)

1. Help all users understand warming house and rink rules and regulations to ensure a good experience for all users
2. Prepare attendance reports
3. Maintain safe and clean ice surfaces by scraping and removing snow from rinks.
4. Maintain clean warming house (i.e. sweep, empty trash).
5. Promptly open, close, and secure the warming house according to schedule.
6. Effective and respectful communication and interaction with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and the general public.
7. Assist skaters as needed.
