Job summary

Banco Santander SA is seeking a Vice President, Portfolio Management for the Middle Market Banking group in the United States. You will lead underwriting due diligence, financial analysis, and credit memos for commercial loans while partnering with portfolio and relationship managers to manage existing lending relationships.

You will present to the credit committee, monitor covenants and risk ratings, and mentor junior team members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree is required or equivalent demonstrated through work experience or education.
• 5+ years of experience in credit structuring and underwriting with cross-selling.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency with financial statement modeling.
• Strong credit skills to evaluate strength and weaknesses across credits.
• Formal credit training program is preferred.
• Ability to produce high-quality underwriting documents with concise analysis under tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and proactively address portfolio needs.
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of regulations governing financial products and services.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new commercial loans for private and publicly owned businesses.
• Perform due diligence and financial analysis of borrowers and guarantors.
• Prepare internal credit memos and present to the credit committee.
• Monitor covenant compliance, risk ratings, and portfolio quality.
• Interface with clients, relationship managers, and deal team members to facilitate underwriting.
• Lead deal screen and underwriting documents with senior members.
• Support legal documentation drafting and negotiations.
• Assist in loan closing and regulatory compliance.
