Job summary

SHRM is seeking a VP of Membership Community to own the strategy, growth, and engagement for the Membership Community, encompassing both dues-paying and non-dues-paying members. The role leads multiple directors and teams, drives lifetime value growth, and reports to the C-suite and Board.

The position carries full P&L accountability, multi-year planning, and cross-functional collaboration with Marketing, Product, Technology, and Finance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, association management, or related field; Master’s or CAE preferred.
• At least 12 years of executive leadership in membership/association management or related field.
• Proven experience running a membership business end-to-end with full P&L ownership.
• Strong data fluency and ability to guide strategic decisions with analytics.
• Experience advising executives and presenting to a Board or governance body.

Responsibilities

• Set and lead the strategy for growth, retention, and lifetime value across the Membership Community.
• Own full P&L accountability for the Membership business, including budgeting and forecasting.
• Lead directors and teams responsible for membership acquisition, retention, and engagement.
• Drive LTV growth through deeper engagement and upsell pathways.
• Oversee community platforms, peer networks, and engagement programs for all members.
• Serve as senior voice for Membership to the C-suite and Board.
• Translate strategy and performance into governance-ready reporting.
