Job summary

Citi is seeking an experienced Java Backend Development Lead in Irving, TX to spearhead the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered platforms. You will lead a team of engineers, architect scalable backends with Java, Spring Boot, and microservices, and collaborate with data scientists to integrate ML models into production.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years in backend development, 3+ years in technical leadership, and strong experience with RESTful APIs, databases, Docker, Kubernetes,

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional experience in backend software development with a strong command of Java.
• 3+ years in a technical leadership or lead developer role with a track record of delivering complex projects.
• Extensive experience with the Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot, for building microservices.
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Proficient in designing and building RESTful APIs and event‑driven systems.
• Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Experience with message brokers such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Strong understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and Agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and mentor a team of backend developers in an Agile environment.
• Architect and design robust, scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices.
• Collaborate with data scientists to integrate AI/ML models into production systems.
• Oversee full software development lifecycle from requirements to deployment and maintenance.
• Promote code quality through testing, CI/CD, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with product managers and other teams to define requirements and timelines.
• Stay current with AI and backend trends and prototype new ideas.
