Job summary

CPS Inc. is seeking a VP of Technology – Coatings to lead the technical backbone of the coatings business. You will unify Laboratory, R&D, QC/QA, and Color into a single strategic division, drive product innovation, and guide manufacturing quality across the organization.

You will set the long-term technology roadmap, mentor department heads, manage budgets, and interact with the COO and board on strategic initiatives. This high-impact role demands strong leadership and deep coatings expertise.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field with 10–15+ years in coatings development.
• 7+ years of progressive leadership experience.
• 5+ years managing multiple technical departments or functions simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to translate technical strategy into business results.
• Strong track record of building and leading high-performing technical teams.
• Familiarity with VOC regulations, OSHA, EPA, ASTM/ISO standards.
• Experience integrating or restructuring technical departments (e.g., post-M&A).
• Experience with color-matching software and LIMS.
• Experience presenting to executive leadership or a board of directors.
• Experience in the manufacturing industry.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute multi-year technology and innovation strategy.
• Unify Lab, R&D, QC, QA, and Color into a cohesive division.
• Own the technology division’s budget, headcount planning, and capital equipment investments.
• Represent technology in executive planning and board reporting.
• Direct development of coatings formulations, resins, and additives.
• Prioritize the R&D pipeline based on opportunity and feasibility.
• Foster relationships with suppliers, consortia, and academic partners.
• Oversee color matching and color technology systems; ensure accuracy.
• Ensure QC/QA meet standards; drive root-cause analysis and improvements.
• Lead laboratory operations with safety and compliance in mind.
