Job summary

Calvert Marine Museum is seeking a Volunteer Program Coordinator to recruit, orient, and place volunteers, and to develop engaging volunteer roles supporting museum programs. You will train volunteers, manage records, and prepare reports on hours and impact.

The role requires collaboration with the Volunteer Council, scheduling events, and preparing materials for recruitment and outreach. Weekend and evening work may be required, with a focus on community engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications or related field.
• Two years of experience working with volunteers.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Conducts recruitment of volunteers; interviews candidates and coordinates orientation and placement.
• Develops/updates volunteer job descriptions; schedules volunteer activities.
• Provides ongoing training on museum-related topics to volunteers and staff.
• Writes quarterly volunteer spotlight features for the organization newsletter.
• Maintains volunteer records; generates reports on hours, contributions, and program metrics.
• Coordinates with Volunteer Council and department liaisons to improve program effectiveness.
• Prepares logistics for major events; directs volunteer staff for seasonal events.
• Manages budget for volunteer program expenses and coordinates with accounts for invoices.
