Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator in Charleston, SC. You will recruit, enroll, and train volunteers for service projects, supervising and coordinating activities to support staff and community programs.

You will also assist with scheduling, background checks, and reports, while engaging with community partners and attending volunteer fairs to promote opportunities and recognize volunteers for their efforts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Experience in recruiting people for volunteer work preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, and assigns work of volunteers; checks progress for accuracy and policy compliance.
• Ensures background checks are conducted on all volunteers and writes evaluations of performance.
• Collaborates with department heads to determine volunteer needs and match applicants accordingly.
• Schedules and supervises volunteers for Community Service hours and tours of facilities.
• Orients volunteers, assists with applications, background checks, confidentiality, and photo releases.
• Maintains a calendar of volunteer activities and recognizes volunteers for their contributions.
• Attends volunteer fairs, coordinates annual volunteer appreciation events, and coordinates tours.
• Supports events planning, including fundraising and Gift-In-Kind solicitation; assists disaster response.
• Prepares records and reports, and communicates volunteer needs to Volunteer Center and partners.
