Responsibilities

• Provide direct service to guests and clients of Good Samaritan Haven.
• Volunteer recruitment: draft position descriptions based on org needs, post opportunities, attend community events to network and present volunteer opportunities, screen potential volunteers, conduct volunteer orientation, ensure safety and boundary compliance, collect waivers.
• Schedule volunteer shifts using tracking software, match volunteer skills with open positions, serve as main contact for volunteers.
• Launch new volunteer database.
• Log volunteer hours, track data, survey volunteers to measure program impact.
• Conduct volunteer appreciation.
• Participate in an Independent Service Project and all VHCB AmeriCorps trainings/events/service days.

Job description

This position will create, formalize, and scale a sustainable volunteer program by focusing on system-building: designing structured volunteer systems and processes, standardizing onboarding toolkits, establishing community partnerships across central VT shelter locations in an effort to increase overall number of volunteers, engagement and retention. Good Samaritan Haven provides emergency shelter and support services, and offers stability, safety, and hope for people experiencing homelessness. Good Samaritan Haven provides shelter, food, and welcome to persons in need. At the heart of Good Samaritan Haven’s mission is recognizing value in every human being. By welcoming our guests open-heartedly, we seek to overcome barriers of race, class, and privilege and build a caring and supportive community together. In addition to emergency shelter assistance, a wide array of case management services are provided to help guests gain employment, apply for benefits, engage in treatment, and find stable housing. We work closely with public safety officials, service organizations, and faith communities in central Vermont. This position is Full Time: Requires a minimum of 1720 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 47 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $31,000 (pre-tax), and an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities.
