Job summary

AKC Museum of The Dog in New York City is seeking a Visitor Experience Associate to greet visitors, process admissions, assist the Gift Shop, and monitor gallery experiences.

You will be the face of the Museum, handling payments, answering general inquiries, and supporting staff on inventory, cash handling, and signage projects. This is a temporary six-month assignment with opportunities based on business needs.

Please Note: This role is currently expected to be a temporary assignment of approximately six (6) months. The duration of the position and future employment opportunities may be adjusted or extended based on business needs and organizational requirements.

The Visitor Experience Associate serves as the face of the institution. Duties include greeting visitors, processing admission payments, answering general inquiries, and servicing the Museum Gift Shop as well as monitoring and enhancing the visitor experience throughout the gallery spaces.

Primary Job Duties:

Inventory

• Confirm all orders are accurate upon delivery. Includes reviewing packing slip and original order and highlighting any discrepancies
• Responsible for updating stock upon delivery in both Veevart and Shopify. Including but not limited to: Creation/Updating of Shop Item in VA/SF, Stock replenishment, Printing labels and working with Visitor Experience Assistants to label all stock and restock accordingly in gift shop and store excess
• Meet weekly with Manager of Visitor Experience for weekly order requests for both shop and general museum needs
• Work with Visitor Experience Assistants to maintain accurate inventory and maintain neat and orderly storage of excess items

Cash Handling

• Provide second count of cash register in morning and evening deposit
• Responsible for bi-weekly cash count and delivery to Manager of Visitor Experience. Second counted by Manager and delivered to finance (First 15 days of month and then second half of month). Daily update of Tracking Excel, shared with Manager of VX for daily cash deposit

Promotional Signage

• Create signage requests for promotional signs in gift shop

Special Projects

• At direction of Manager of Visitor Experience, work with Visitor Experience Assistants on projects on a need-by-need basis

Secondary Job Duties:

• Provide customer service to all guests, including answering inquires and general knowledge of museum exhibitions and programming as well as knowledge of Membership benefits
• Process admission payments and gift shop payments using a variety of payments
• Responsibly handle confidential information
• Assist with locker rentals and coast check
• Ensure welcome vestibule and gift shop remain tidy and encourage the flow of foot traffic
• Work with other Visitor Experience staff and communicate effectively with supervisor
• Light cleaning duties
• Other duties as assigned

The hourly rate range for this position in New York City is $15.00 – $17.00 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as skills, experience, job-related knowledge, qualifications, and geographic location.
