Guest Services Representative (Part-Time)

The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions. The Visitor Services department seeks part‑time Guest Services Representatives to provide outstanding services to visitors, representing the museum to the public through direct interaction and communication.

Position Summary

Applicants should be reliable, committed to the success of their team, and demonstrate the ability to thrive in a dynamic and busy environment.

Schedule

Work schedules require a weekend day. Various shift schedules are available.

Responsibilities
  • Greet members and visitors, check for timed‑entry reservations upon arrival, and process reservations and sell pay‑as‑you‑wish admission to regional visitors following all outlined protocols.
  • Process vouchers and passes in Tessitura; process all member transactions, identify upsell opportunities, and process new and renewing members, track sales, and complete appropriate forms for back‑of‑house reporting and customer resolution.
  • Provide general information about special exhibitions and scan tickets to sell upgrade tickets at all special exhibition entrances.
  • Facilitate the operation of LeFrak Theater, including providing direction on seating.
  • Greet Museum visitors at the Planetarium Space Show, scan tickets, operate the Planetarium elevators, facilitate visitor entry from the preshow area, and usher visitors into the theater; manage the show operation from start to finish by controlling the space show console.
  • Adjust school/tour group orders and enter or update reservations.
  • Greet and facilitate the safe entry of school and tour groups; collect school group lunches and transport them to the student lunchroom area; coordinate the lunchroom area and facilitate seating and distribution of lunches.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior cash handling experience.
  • Previous experience working in high‑volume environments.
  • Previous work in customer‑focused/service‑related industries.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to move about the museum campus.
  • Positioning/change of positioning: Must be able to frequently position oneself or body to accomplish job duties.
    • Balancing: maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling.
    • Climbing: ascending or descending physical structures.
    • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently. May include:
      • Pushing: using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
      • Pulling: using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
      • Lifting: raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
Compensation

Expected salary: $20 per hour. Overtime is eligible. Pay is determined based on experience, skills, and other individualized factors.
