Overview and Responsibilities
The CBS Digital team is looking for a Vice President of Engineering to fuel the growth and output of our engineering teams for our premium sports, news, and entertainment brands while maintaining alignment with our product vision and business objectives. These engineering teams are responsible for building world-class products for our passionate audience across our connected TV platforms.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Build out critical streaming and VOD distribution pipelines rapidly expanding across the CBS Digital portfolio.
- Architecting and delivering major tentpole events such as the Super Bowl, Elections, Golden Globes, etc, in close collaboration with Paramount+ and Pluto.
- Linear Network and FAST channel engineering leadership across an expanding portfolio.
- Architecture for the CBS Entertainment applications and web properties across all digital platforms.
- Responsible for the entirety of the video/streaming backend portfolio, including CMS systems, 3rd party integrations, video encoding pipelines.
- Own the ecosystem that powers applications that are consolidating across the CBS Digital portfolio, providing engineering efficiencies and cost savings.
- Prioritize requirements from competing business interests and build consensus across teams.
- Help define and support the implementation of key performance metrics for our CTV and streaming engineering teams.
- Help set and fulfill the engineering hiring plan for our CTV and streaming teams, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing.
- Mentor and grow engineers while keeping them engaged and focused on the product and company vision.
- Provide technical/software development leadership and architectural guidance for evolving streaming workflows.
- Build and manage relationships with a diverse set of partners, including product owners, ad operations teams, external vendors, and executives.
- Work in a fast-paced AGILE environment. This should be second nature (TDD, SCRUM, Kanban, etc.) with evolutionary architecture and prototyping, experience with various databases, and configuration/deployment/testing solutions.
- Collaborate with technical and business resources, gathering and documenting requirements and formulating action plans.
- Present designs and plans to executive management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years as a hands-on engineer solving hard scaling problems horizontally.
- 7+ years leading and building engineering teams, with a strong track record of mentoring developers and fostering leadership within the organization.
- Proven experience building and shipping CTV applications across various platforms.
- In-depth understanding of data caching strategies and working knowledge of CDNs (Akamai, CloudFront, Fastly).
- Deep knowledge of current application delivery technologies and trends, including Linux, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, Relational & NoSQL Datastores (MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB).
- Experience integrating ad-serving products and analytics/reporting tools into CTV, desktop, and mobile experiences.
Additional Qualifications:
- You love sports, fantasy sports, and sports gaming!
- Knowledge of server and cloud computing technologies from providers such as AWS, GCP, OCI, and Azure.
- Experience with Git/GitHub, BitBucket, or similar version control systems.
- Knowledge of edge computing such as Fastly C@E, Lambda@Edge, and Cloudflare Workers.
- Excellence in problem-solving, critical thinking, and working in a team-oriented environment.
- Shown ability to meet deadlines with extraordinary attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work well with both technical and non-technical members of the organization.
- Past experience in a large scale internet-based organization, media company, or agency.
