Position Summary:

This position will serve as an enterprise-wide strategic leader and subject matter expert for software engineering. The VP of Software Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the teams that deliver industry-leading software used by Truckstop’s customers and its internal teams. The VP will be responsible for leading software development, architecture, and software quality teams. This position will receive direction from the Chief Technology Officer and will partner with our Product organization to properly invest our resources to achieve the goals of the company. This role will cultivate a culture of data-driven innovation and iteration, with an emphasis on continuous delivery, execution, and learning.

The VP of Software Engineering role will provide thought leadership, execution oversight, and governance in planning, managing, and achieving the teams’ strategic vision. It will also provide leadership in accomplishing operational excellence in the engineering design and implementation of multiple software projects associated with the defined product roadmap. This position serves as a catalyst for continuous improvement to ensure that Truckstop has the appropriate software engineering patterns, practices, services, organizational capabilities, and technology solutions to meet the company’s business goals, product strategies, and key imperatives.

Strategic thinking and business acumen are essential in this role. We expect that this role is well versed in current technological trends and modern product development concepts and can see the gaps that need to be filled to enable success. A key component of this role will be the development of an empowered team model that coaches customer empathy and understanding into the product development process. Empowerment comes from accountability and trust - alignment of the teams' priorities with business needs and timelines is critical and includes the coaching and training of this mindset into the teams.

Essential Job Functions:

• To be a servant leader which supports and demonstrates our culture of respect, passion and team effectiveness
• Define the strategy and mission of the software engineering teams
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Product, Marketing, Sales, and other business leadership to develop and drive technical roadmaps and execution
• Align product development efforts with company-level goals, marshaling resources across teams as necessary, presenting strategic roadmaps and updates to the executive team regularly
• Be an expert in the modern technology and vendor ecosystem and be able to contribute to build-vs-buy analyses
• Have both a strong business and technical acumen and serve as a strategic technical partner to the Product organization to develop and drive overall product strategy
• Build trust through delivery and communication, across all levels of the company
• Establish an organizational design and staffing plan that maximizes the impact and health of our engineering function, while recruiting and developing top product engineering talent and leadership
• Understand and build metrics to help optimize development efficiency and delivery
• Develop budgets and manage costs and resources. Contribute to strategic decisions regarding investment in capital and labor
• Above all else, you are a Coach - you live to build teams who care deeply about their customers, who understand them better than they know themselves, and who solve problems they didn't even know they had

Position Requirements:

• 10+ years leading large software teams, ideally in a SaaS environment
• Experience with working with both cutting edge and legacy frameworks. Microservice architecture experience is a plus.
• Proven experience managing the full software development lifecycle, ranging from system and database architecture, development of detailed design plans, automated testing/QA, and deployment
• Strong object-oriented design and programming skills. Advanced knowledge of .NET and the Microsoft development stack is a plus
• Experience with cloud-based systems. Experience with AWS and Azure PaaS environments is a plus
• Experience with various Agile methodologies
