Our privately held, multi-billion company is seeking a dynamic Vice President of Operations to oversee our plants across the Northeast Region.
In this critical leadership role, you will be instrumental in ensuring our production capabilities consistently meet sales demands, while also fostering a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and talent development. You will have a direct impact on our bottom line by optimizing plant performance and strategically preparing for future growth.
What You'll Do:
As the Vice President of Operations, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of multiple plants within the Northeast Region. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Production & Profitability: Drive the achievement of production targets to align with sales forecasts, consistently seeking opportunities to maximize plant profitability and operational efficiency.
- Operational Excellence: Continuously assess and refine manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall operational effectiveness across all assigned plants.
- Team Leadership & Development: Guide, mentor, and evaluate Regional Operations Managers and General Managers, empowering them to effectively staff, develop, and lead their teams. Oversee performance reviews and compensation adjustments for all salaried personnel within your purview.
- Budget Management: Collaborate with plant management to prepare and manage annual capital and operating budgets, actively supporting the securing of funds to achieve plant objectives.
- Safety Champion: Foster a robust safety culture, providing leadership and guidance to ensure the achievement of all company safety goals and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Regularly visit assigned plants to review key performance indicators, including production goals, maintenance programs, quality control, delivery schedules, and safety. Keep corporate officers informed on sales, production, personnel changes, financial results (P&L), and capital needs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Human Resources, and Accounting departments, as well as external insurance and legal services providers, to ensure seamless operations and strategic alignment.
Who You Are:
You are a results-oriented leader with a strong blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and people management skills. You possess:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Extensive Experience: Several years of progressive leadership experience in operations management within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment, ideally with multi-site responsibility.
- Industry Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of construction engineering, plant design, plant operations, and the legal and regulatory requirements impacting plant management.
- Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of general office procedures, accounting principles, and administrative controls, with the ability to manage budgets and interpret financial statements.
- Leadership & Influence: Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and lead a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a track record of identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Communication Prowess: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of clearly articulating complex information to diverse audiences.
- Adaptability & Resilience: Ability to thrive in a demanding, fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and adapting to varying conditions.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
This role requires a significant presence at our plant locations and the ability to navigate varying industrial environments. You should be prepared for:
- Travel: Frequent travel to company meetings and various plant locations across the Northeast Region.
- Environment: Exposure to varying weather conditions (temperature extremes, dust, rain, wind, snow), as well as industrial materials such as gasoline, diesel fuel, motor oils, anti-freeze, and product dust.
- Physical Demands: Ability to work 50-60 hours per week over 5-6 days.
- Frequent standing, walking, turning, and twisting of the upper body.
- Intermittent sitting, squatting, crouching/stooping, and bending.
- Ability to climb heights up to 100 feet (steps, ladders, ramp walkways with handrails).
- Intermittent carrying, lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs; seldom up to 100 lbs.
- Good vision and hearing (corrected if necessary).
- Ability to manage the psychological demands associated with employee supervision, production targets, customer requests, equipment breakdowns, and peak season demands.
- Safety: Hearing protection and respiratory use are required in designated locations.
