Overview - VP of Software Engineering

Forsyth Barnes are working with a lead retail organization hiring a visionary and hands-on VP of Software Engineering to lead their remote engineering teams through the next phase of innovation and growth. This role is central to modernizing their technology stack and delivering robust, customer-focused digital solutions in a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities - VP of Software Engineering

• Lead and mentor multiple engineering teams across full stack development projects
• Own the technical vision, architecture, and execution strategy
• Collaborate with senior leadership, product, and business stakeholders
• Drive engineering best practices, agile methodologies, and DevOps adoption
• Ensure scalable, high-performance systems that support consumer-facing applications
• Champion innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
• Manage and oversee budgets, timelines, and resource planning for engineering initiatives
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical ownership

Key Requirements - VP of Software Engineering

• US Citizenship (must currently reside in the US)
• 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with at least 5 in leadership roles
• Proven track record delivering scalable full stack applications in the consumer/retail domain
• Strong technical background in both front-end and back-end development
• Deep knowledge of cloud-native architectures, microservices, and platform engineering
• Experience leading distributed teams in a remote-first environment
• Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and leadership skills
