Job summary

Petco is seeking a Veterinary Technician to provide high-quality care for Vetco Total Care patients and excellent customer service to owners. You will support veterinarians during appointments, surgeries, dentistry, and anesthesia, while maintaining accurate medical records and compassionate client communication.

You will prepare patients for procedures, monitor vitals, manage medications, and assist with hospital duties to support a cohesive, efficient team in a busy veterinary hospital

• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments or walk-ins and escort into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, record all in the electronic medical record, and begin documentation of the patient visit.
• Assist veterinarian with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, taking direct supervision from the veterinarian and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications at the direction of the veterinarian, and maintain the electronic medical record.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, maintain inventory and client/patient records, and manage accounts receivable.
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, monitor anesthetized patients, and prepare them for discharge.
• Provide in-hospital treatments including medications and intravenous therapies, keep patients clean, fed, and hydrated, and walk canine patients as needed.
