Job summary

Sherwood South Animal Hospital Emergency Clinic in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Technician for overnight shifts. You will support veterinarians during exams, procedures, and emergencies, monitor anesthesia, and provide critical care to injured or ill patients.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1+ years of emergency veterinary technician experience.
  • ECC/CVT/LVT/RVT credentials encouraged and valued.
  • Strong anesthesia monitoring and surgical assisting skills.
  • Experience with post-operative and emergency patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians during emergency exams, treatments, and procedures.
  • Monitor anesthesia and assist with emergency surgeries and post-operative care.
  • Provide emergency nursing care and first aid to injured or recovering patients.
  • Prepare patients and surgical instruments for procedures.
  • Monitor and interpret vital signs (BP, ECG, SpO₂, EtCO₂).
  • Collect laboratory samples and perform in-house diagnostics.
  • Operate digital radiography and advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Document patient histories and medical records.
  • Maintain clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas.
  • Mentor and support fellow technicians and assistants.

What You’ll Do

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you’ll provide hands-on care to critical patients by:

  • Supporting veterinarians during emergency exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Monitoring anesthesia and assisting with emergency surgeries and post-operative care
  • Providing emergency nursing care and first aid to injured or recovering patients
  • Preparing patients and surgical instruments for procedures
  • Monitoring and interpreting vital signs, including blood pressure, ECG, SpO₂, and EtCO₂
  • Collecting laboratory samples and performing in-house diagnostics
  • Operating digital radiography and advanced diagnostic equipment
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Accurately documenting patient histories and medical records
  • Maintaining clean, sterile, and organized treatment, exam, and lab areas
  • Mentoring and supporting fellow technicians and assistants
