Job summary

Sherwood South Animal Hospital & Emergency Center in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Technician for our general practice team within a dynamic 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital.

The role supports anesthesia, surgical procedures, and in-house diagnostics while collaborating with doctors and staff to deliver high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Experience working as a veterinary technician in a clinical setting with direct patient care.
  • CVT / LVT / RVT credentials encouraged, but not required.
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical assisting.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented, professional, and compassionate demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, and procedures.
  • Support anesthesia, surgical assisting, and post-operative care.
  • Prepare patients and instruments for surgery.
  • Monitor anesthetic patients and observe changes in condition.
  • Collect laboratory samples and perform in-house diagnostics.
  • Operate digital radiography and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Administer medications and prescribed treatments.
  • Record accurate patient histories and medical records.
  • Assist with patient admissions and discharges.
  • Use safe restraint techniques and follow hospital protocols.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sterile exam, treatment, and lab areas.
  • Collaborate with doctors, technicians, and support staff.
  • Support and mentor fellow team members as needed.

Sherwood South Animal Hospital & Emergency Center is hiring a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Technician to join our general practice team within a dynamic 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital. This role is ideal for technicians who enjoy variety, teamwork, and practicing quality medicine in a fast-paced, supportive environment.

Our hospital serves dogs and cats across East & West Baton Rouge Parish, Zachary, Denham Springs, Central, and Prairieville, offering primary care, urgent care, emergency services, dentistry, boarding, and grooming-all under one roof.

What You’ll Do
  • Assisting veterinarians during exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Supporting anesthesia, surgical assisting, and post-operative care
