Job summary

Canton Veterinary Hospital is looking to fill a Part‑Time Receptionist position for early morning day shifts, evening shifts, and rotating Saturdays. The role requires experience in Veterinary Medicine and offers opportunities for growth within the field. Candidates should be ready for standing, occasional heavy lifting, and a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional client service while maintaining smooth flow of clients and patients.
  • Greet clients, determine needs, and complete check‑in/check‑out processes.
  • Perform office duties related to patient care and treatment, assisting the Hospital Manager and doctors as needed.
  • Communicate professionally with all team members and clients.
  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians and technicians to maintain patient flow.
  • Handle incoming calls using prescribed techniques and address client questions.
  • Schedule appointments and ensure timely scheduling for treatments, vaccines, rechecks, surgeries, and other services.
  • Remind clients of upcoming appointments and pre‑surgery requirements.
  • Maintain appearance and cleanliness of the waiting area, restocking supplies and educational materials.
  • Demonstrate basic emergency procedures and inform staff about incoming emergencies.
  • Assist emotionally distressed clients and demonstrate empathy.
  • Invoice clients, collect fees, process credit cards, and counsel on payment options.
  • Educate clients on products, services, and routine medical care questions.
  • Help with client reminders for health assessments, parasite checks, dentistry, and senior care.
  • Follow time‑clock procedures and report to work on time.
  • Assist the Hospital Manager with special projects and additional clinic tasks.
  • Ensure sufficient supplies and reorder on a timely basis.
Essential Functions
  • Communicate professionally and effectively to all members of the team and clients.
  • Assist in maintaining flow of pets.
  • Provide compassionate service to clients.
  • Professional telephone handling using service excellence.
  • Schedule appointments and address client questions.
  • Follow established policies for scheduling and proper timing.
  • Contact clients with appointment reminders.
  • Keep waiting room clean and replenished.
  • Demonstrate emergency procedures and advise staff.
  • Greet clients cheerfully and ensure contact from arrival to departure.
  • Complete check‑ins/ check‑outs, preparing required forms.
  • Schedule follow‑up exams and appointments.
  • Assist grieving clients and demonstrate empathy.
  • Invoice, collect fees, process payments, counsel clients, and manage paperwork.
  • Educate clients on products, services, and routine medical care.
Requirements and Physical Demands
  • Experience in Veterinary Medicine.
  • Sense of caring for animals.
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and work well individually and within a team.
  • Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work, including euthanasia.
  • Strong active listening, critical thinking, problem‑solving, time management, judgment, and decision‑making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Models a professional and courteous manner with all staff and clients.
  • Must stand for long periods; heavy lifting may be involved.

Compensation commensurate with experience ($18‑20/hr).
