National Veterinary Associates offers externship opportunities for veterinary students, allowing them to gain practical experience and develop essential skills in a supportive environment. Students will work alongside experienced veterinarians, enhancing their clinical and communication abilities while contributing to animal care.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students the opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Externs will also have opportunities to develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
