National Veterinary Associates offers a veterinary externship at its hospitals, providing students with hands-on clinical experience. Under supervision, externs will engage in patient care activities such as examinations and treatments, while also developing communication skills with the team and clients. These externships allow veterinary students to gain valuable insights into daily operations, empowering their professional journey with valuable support and mentorship.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its unique aspects, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional care to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details.
